London Real Estate Profile

Jan.16, 2005 London real estate profile: London is located at a crossroads with three major highways: 401, 402 and 403. The highways connect London to Michigan, Toronto and the Niagara Falls region. Within a day's drive one can reach over 150 million people in Canadian and American cities. London International Airport has connections to other national and international cities.

Considering its population of 340,000, London has surprisingly light traffic: it only takes about 15 minutes to get to anywhere in the city. Like London, England, London, Ontario has a river called the Thames running through it. It also has touring double-decker buses. Beautiful Victoria Park is situated in the centre of downtown, with the trendy Covent Garden Market close by. Unique shops can be found on Dundas St., trendy upscale stores on Richmond Row, and top-notch malls in a variety of locations. There is also a wide choice of fine or casual dining.

Many parks line the Thames River. Boating, rowing and canoeing are popular on Fanshawe Lake. In October 2001, the John Labatt Centre opened. The entertainment and sports complex opened is home to the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights. There are plenty of things to do with children in London such as visit Fanshawe Pioneer Village or Storybook Gardens. And there are many festivals throughout the year such as the Ferragosto Italian Festival.

London has plenty of family-friendly residential areas. North London has the most expensive homes running anywhere from $165,000 to $925,000 and higher. The most affordable houses are in East London where they run between $60,000 and $460,000. In between is South London, one of the city's larger residential areas. Public schools are located throughout the city; there are also private and Catholic schools. London is home to one of Canada's top universities, the University of Western Ontario, as well as Fanshawe College, one of Ontario's most respected community colleges.
